A 23-year-old Belleville man will make an appearance in court in November to answer to assault charges.

Before 9:30 Thursday morning, a man had approached Belleville Police officers in the downtown and after an interaction, reportedly became verbally aggressive and made gestures to spray water on them with a water bottle.

He then fled on foot from police.

Christian Laffan was eventually located, arrested and charged with assaulting and resisting a peace officer and was released on an undertaking.
