The 2025 Capital Budget has been amended to increase 1.018 Tools & Equipment by $80,800, to be funded by the Fire Protection Grant.
The decision came this afternoon at Belleville Council’s meeting at City Hall.
The Fire Protection Grant program was announced in the government’s 2024 Budget and is designed to support cancer prevention efforts by municipal fire departments across Ontario. The Fire Protection Grant will assist fire departments in acquiring critical equipment to enhance firefighter health and safety, and minor infrastructure at the local level.
This is the second year of the program, with the City receiving $41,500 in the first year for the purchase of bunker gear extractor and decontamination equipment. It provides 100% of the funding, with allocations based on the number of active fire stations per municipality.
The funding will support the purchase of cancer prevention Personal Protective Equipment, including particulate hoods and structural gloves, two Decon Paks for on-scene gross decontamination, a bunker gear extractor for Fire Station #4, a positive pressure fan to improve safety at fire scenes, and internet connectivity for the rural station to enhance training, reporting, and access to resources at Fire Station #5.
Belleville Council meets again on Oct 6 at 4pm at City Hall.
