In a battle between two teams still looking to find their way this OJHL season, the Trenton Golden Hawks came out on the wrong side of a Friday night decision on home ice.
The Georgetown Raiders poured it on the Hawks 6-2 at the Duncan McDonald Community Gardens, despite Trenton pelting goaltender Michael Marandola with 49 shots.
Georgetown drove out to a 3-0 lead after the first on two goals from Sebastian Cabral and one from Maverick Secours, two of them shorthanded, all coming within about a four-and-a-half-minute span to chase Trenton starter Hayden Jeffery.
Ethan Brassard got one back on a low laser for his sixth of the season from Kale Mace and Mason Musclow halfway through the second, and Wyatt Gregory handled himself well in a spirited bout with Jacob Villa, but the Hawks ultimately couldn’t fully climb out of the hole.
Georgetown strung together three more tallies in the third, one each from Denimes Mosler-Plata, Lucas Tye and Matthew Scozzese (into an empty-net and shorthanded again) to put the Hawks away.
Trenton picked up a third period goal from Sterling Poff with his first in the OJHL assisted by Thomas Harnett in his debut with the Hawks after a trade from Niverville in the Manitoba Junior League and Matt Hicks.
The Hawks fall to 4-7-1-0 on the season and will turn around quickly for a Saturday matchup with the Hurricanes in Newmarket at 4:30 p.m.
