Everyone receives the same questions, and their answers are presented with minimal editing for format purposes only.

First and Last Name
Ken Morton
What position are you seeking in the upcoming municipal election on October 26?
Councillor Ward 8 North Marysburgh
Question 1 – Why are you running and what are your main priorities if elected/re-elected?
I have had an interest in politics for years just not the time. With the sale of my business Deerhaven Farm & Garden last year, I now feel I have the time to devote to Prince Edward County 1 Responsible fiscal management 2 Protecting our rural and agricultural identity 3 Listening and communication
Question 2 – How do you balance budgetary restraint with continuing increases in many areas of the municipal budget?
Council will have some tough decisions over the next 4 years. We will need to focus on our core responsibilities.
Question 3 – Infrastructure projects are a huge strain on local budgets, especially when it comes to water/wastewater. How can we address/reduce these costs moving forward and mitigate the impact for ratepayers/taxpayers?
We need to break it down to the four main systems Wellington Water, Wellington wastewater, Picton water and Picton wastewater. Then get the costing to maintain or replace each instead of these huge estimates. If in the end water for Picton must come from Wellington or another source Prince Edward will need government support. We need to get the real numbers to make that decision.
Question 4 – What measures can the municipality take to address the issues of affordability and housing security?
We need to get the current projects moving.
Question 5 – Homelessness has become a major issue for most local communities. What would you do to address this issue and what needs to happen to have a meaningful impact?
Question 6 – What message do you want the voter to know about you and your campaign and your priorities for the next four years?
As a successful business owner, I bring years of leadership and practical experience with risk management, strategic partnerships, and financial accountability. I have a deep understanding of the diversity and uniqueness of Prince Edward County. I will bring responsible fiscal management- That means thoughtful, and informed decisions today for a stronger tomorrow. Taxpayers work hard for their money. The Municipality needs to do the same- ensuring debt investments are made in roads, water and community services, while keeping property taxes manageable for residents. Protecting our rule and agricultural identity, Prince Edward County has a distinct landscape-miles of shorelines, rare attractions like lake on the mountain, and the sandbanks. Balancing growth, tourism and economic development is key. The challenge is to have sustainable growth while maintaining our boutique culture- small town charm while offering big city amenities. Supporting growth with infrastructure that we all can afford! Listening and communication. Your voice matters. I will listen. I will be accessible and I will make sure North Marysburgh has a clear accountable voice at the table. I will keep you involved and informed on municipal decisions.
