A stolen vehicle investigation in Quinte West resulted in the recovery of several stolen vehicles and the arrest of four individuals, all from outside the Quinte region.
Just before 1:00 a.m. Monday, the Quinte West OPP received information of a stolen vehicle travelling east on Highway 401 that was being tracked remotely by York Regional Police.
Members of the Northumberland OPP attempted to stop the vehicle, however the vehicle failed to stop and continued eastbound. Police later located the vehicle at a scrap yard on Downs Road in the City of Quinte West. Three individuals were located and arrested at the scene in a separate vehicle while departing the location.
Members of the Quinte West OPP, and the Quinte West OPP Crime Unit executed a search warrant on the property on Downs Road. As a result, three vehicles were located and seized that had previously been reported stolen out of the Greater Toronto Area, along with various car parts.
Four individuals have been arrested and charged.
Georges Tafnkji, 48 years old, of Scarborough has been charged with:
- Possession of property obtained by crime – over $5,000
Bilal Khan, 20 years old, of Cambridge has charged with:
- Dangerous operation
- Theft of motor vehicle – two counts
- Possession of device for purpose of committing theft
- Possession of break in instruments
- Trafficking in property obtained by crime
Raiyan Fruitwala, 20, of Toronto has been charged with:
- Dangerous operation
- Theft of motor vehicle – two counts
- Possession of a device for purpose of committing theft
- Possession of break in instruments
- Trafficking in property obtained by crime
A 14-year-old youth from Toronto that cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act was charged with:
- Dangerous operation
- Theft of motor vehicle – two counts
- Possession of device for purpose of committing theft
- Possession of break in instruments
- Trafficking in property obtained by crime
All of the accused were held in custody for a bail hearing.
