The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid impaired driving and other charges following two separate traffic stops.
On Friday, July 17, 2026, at approximately 2:45 p.m., Quinte West OPP conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle on Highway 2, leading to an investigation where an ASD was used, resulting in the arrest of the driver, who was transported to the detachment for further testing.
As a result of the investigation, charges were laid under the Criminal Code (CC), the Tobacco Tax Act (TTA) and the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).
John TURNER, 65 years old, from Quinte West, was charged with the following offences:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Possess unmarked cigarettes
- Litter highway
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on September 3, 2026. Additionally, the vehicle was impounded for seven days, and their licence suspended for 90 days.
In a second (unrelated) case, on Sunday, July 19, 2026, a traffic complaint led Quinte West OPP to suspect a motorist may have been impaired.
A vehicle was the stopped that morning around 8:00 a.m., on Orchard Lane in Quinte West.
As a result of the investigation, charges were laid under the Criminal Code (CC), the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA), the Cannabis Control Act (CCA) and the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).
Scott COMEAU, age 36, from Consecon, was charged with the following offences:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
- Failure to comply with undertaking
- Possession of a Schedule I substance – Methamphetamine
- Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
- Driving while under suspension
- Alter plate
The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on July 21, 2026. Additionally, the vehicle was impounded for seven days, and their licence suspended for 90 days.
