Belleville Police took a man to the hospital after a tense standoff involving a knife on Wednesday.
On July 8, 2026, Belleville Police attended a call for service at a residence in the city’s west end. It was reported that an individual attended a male’s residence and knocked on the door, however, the male refused to open it and screamed that he had a knife and was going to kill everyone.
Upon police arrival, officers attempted to contact the male. He continued to refuse to open the door and made repeated threats to kill everyone, as he was armed with a knife.
At approximately 3:30 p.m., members of the Belleville Police Emergency Response Unit and negotiators were requested, and containment was established. Negotiators began verbal communication with the male at 4:24 p.m.
At 4:53 p.m., the 41-year-old Belleville man was safely negotiated out of his apartment and into police custody and was transported to a local hospital.
