A Cobourg man has been arrested on several charges following an intimate partner violence investigation which included multiple allegations of sexual assault.
On May 22, 2026, the Cobourg Police Service Criminal Investigation Bureau initiated an investigation after receiving a report of a historical sexual assault and assault involving a victim and their former partner.
As a result of the investigation, on June 5, 2026, a 40-year-old Cobourg man was arrested and charged with six counts of sexual assault and four counts of assault.
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court at a future date.
Cobourg Police Service reminds everyone that there is no statute of limitations for sexual offences, and offenders can be prosecuted well after the date of the offence. A sexual assault includes any non-consensual contact of a sexual nature. Police encourage anyone who feels they may have been a victim of a sexual assault to come forward and report the incident to police.
