Belleville Council is moving forward with the Community Improvement Plan (CIP) application proposed for 120 Burnham St.
During Monday’s council meeting, the project was approved for Programs 3, 4, and 15 of the CIP in the amount of $197,000.00 to facilitate development of the project.
An application for this project was initially approved in 2022, but a new application under the current CIP was approved this year.
The building is proposed to include 38 rental units, including twelve (12) affordable units, and eight (8) accessible units. The project is intended to be a low-rise, multi-unit dwelling.
A site plan has also been approved for the project.
The adjusted funding approval in the amount of $197,000.00 through Program 3 (with Program 15 top-up) and Program 4 of the CIP would utilize nearly 20% of the remaining CIP budget, while leaving approximately $793,000.00 for additional housing projects.
Substantial upfront funding will be provided to support this project while preserving some CIP funds to support other potential housing developments.
As stated during the meeting, the new CIP meets Council’s priorities to build new affordable and accessible housing, revitalization of the downtown core, brownfield development, and overall community improvement.
The new CIP also makes it easier for people to apply to the program.
Mayor Ellis says it is a “win win” project for the city and its residents, as the CIP helps prioritize affordable housing for Belleville.
