One of Quinte’s foremost community philanthropists and spiritual leaders has passed away.
Rev. Dr. Hal Wilson was confirmed to have passed on Saturday at the age of 83.
Wilson was a minister and a volunteer at Bridge Street United Church, and was heavily involved in the non-profit sector, chairing the Christmas Sharing Program for many years, as well as United Way fundraising campaigns.
He was also involved with the Belleville General Hospital board as chair.
Wilson was named the 2007 Guardian Angel by The Children’s Foundation.
In a Facebook post on Monday, The Children’s Foundation stated Wilson was a ‘true community leader whose kindness, compassion and commitment to helping others touched countless lives’ throughout the region.
“We were honoured to recognize him as a Guardian Angel and remain incredibly grateful for the lasting impact he made on our Foundation and our community,” the post read.
The 418 Wing Air Force Association’s ‘Reverend Hal Wilson Humanitarian Award is named in his honour, along with a Christmas Sharing student bursary, among other accolades.
Wilson leaves behind his wife Olive, two children and five grandchildren.
