The Trenton Golden Hawks in the Ontario Junior Hockey League have shared the following statement below, about what their latest partnership means moving foward.
BUILDING BRIDGES ACROSS JUNIOR HOCKEY!
The landscape of junior hockey development is evolving, and the Trenton Golden Hawks are proud to remain at the absolute forefront of that evolution.
Following the exciting announcement that Golden Hawks ownership has partnered with NHL legend and Hall of Famer Joe Sakic to launch a United States Hockey League (USHL) Tier I expansion franchise in San Diego for the 2027–28 season, we are excited to update our fans, billet families, and prospective players with insight into what this means for our club—and why it directly reinforces the core mission of Trenton Golden Hawks hockey.
Aligning with Our Core Mission Statement
At the heart of the Trenton Golden Hawks organization is an unwavering commitment: to provide elite athlete development, cultivate character and leadership, and serve as an elite launching pad for players pursuing their NCAA, OHL, U Sports, and professional hockey dreams.
Ownership’s expansion into the USHL does not shift our focus away from Quinte West—it directly empowers it. By securing an active footprint in Tier I American junior hockey alongside our premier position in the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL), our ownership group is building a modern, multi-tiered advancement model.
Bridging the Gap in a Rural Market: The World Elite & Momentous Advantage
Developing elite hockey talent in a rural or smaller market presents unique challenges. For young athletes outside of major metropolitan hubs, gaining access to top-tier training facilities, high-level exposure, and clear pathways to higher leagues can often feel out of reach.
Our ownership group has intentionally built a complete, end-to-end development system designed to eliminate those barriers:
-
World Elite / Momentous Athletics: Providing state-of-the-art physical conditioning, skill development, and elite training & treatment directly to our athletes year-round.
-
The Trenton Golden Hawks (OJHL): Offering a proven, high-visibility platform where players hone their skills in front of dedicated fans, scouts, and top-tier coaching staffs in one of Canada’s premier Junior A environments.
-
USHL Tier I Connection: Creating a direct, internal bridge to North America’s top Tier I junior system and its massive exposure to NCAA Division I programs and NHL scouting departments.
By integrating elite training at World Elite / Momentous Athletics, top-tier Junior A competition with the Golden Hawks, and a direct pipeline into the USHL, our organization offers an all-encompassing development package that is truly like no other east of Toronto. We are making elite hockey goals attainable right here in the Quinte region.
Unrivaled Development, Unchanged Commitment
While this expansion establishes a bridge between Canadian and American junior hockey, our primary objective remains unchanged: bringing championships to the Duncan McDonald Memorial Community Centre and giving Quinte West a team it can proudly rally behind.
“This acquisition is a natural evolution of our business model,” says Trenton Golden Hawk’s management. “We’ve built a system that wraps around the player—from their off-ice development at World Elite to their on-ice execution in Trenton. Adding a direct connection to the USHL doesn’t replace what we do here in Quinte West; it supercharges it. We are offering athletes in our region a complete roadmap to fulfill their hockey and educational aspirations without having to leave an elite development network.”
As the USHL continues its growth, the Trenton Golden Hawks remain fully committed to setting the standard in player advancement, community involvement, and championship-caliber hockey.
The future of hockey in Trenton isn’t just bright—it’s leading the way.
