The Northumberland and Whitby Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were pleased to participate in the Township of Hamilton Summer Camp Touch-A-Truck event on Thursday alongside local firefighters, providing campers with an opportunity to meet first responders and learn more about emergency services.
Over 50 children attended the event, where they explored police and fire vehicles, asked questions, and enjoyed an afternoon filled with excitement, learning, and the sounds of sirens echoing throughout the grounds.
The event marked the first of two planned engagements with the campers. Northumberland OPP is looking forward to welcoming the group to the detachment in the coming weeks for a day of activities, a barbecue, and an opportunity to learn more about policing.
A highlight of the upcoming visit may include a special appearance from the OPP Canine Unit (K9) and Emergency Response Team (ERT). News of the possible visit quickly spread among the campers, generating plenty of excitement and anticipation for the return visit.
The Northumberland OPP would like to thank the Township of Hamilton Summer Camp staff and the local fire department for the invitation and their ongoing commitment to providing meaningful opportunities for youth to engage with first responders in a positive and interactive environment.
