Fatal drowning on Cross Lake north of Bancroft

There was a fatal drowning north of Bancroft Monday afternoon.

Bancroft OPP responded to a call about a canoe that capsized on Cross Lake at around 1:30 p.m.

The OPP add that they were joined by local citizens, the Whitney and Renfrew County paramedic services, in the search for the person involved.

Sadly, the victim was a 17-year-old from Mariposa Township. His body was located by the underwater search and recovery unit. An autopsy will be conducted.
