The Bay of Quinte Yacht Club successfully hosted the Eastern Yachting Circuit from July 9–11, welcoming sailors from across Ontario, Quebec, and the New York State for three days of competitive sailing on the Bay of Quinte.
The regatta featured 44 boats competing in the Eastern Yachting Circuit, along with six Laser 28s competing for their Canadian Championship, bringing a combined fleet of 50 boats to the waterfront for the weekend.
The event began on Thursday with the traditional 22-nautical-mile Long Distance Race. Competitors enjoyed beautiful sailing conditions at the start before weather fronts moved through the area, bringing changing winds and unsettled conditions. To ensure the safety of all competitors, race officials shortened the course, allowing the fleet to complete the race.
Friday’s scheduled course racing was abandoned as winds remained too light to provide fair racing conditions.
Improved conditions arrived on Saturday, allowing race officials to complete three course races on the south side of the Bay of Quinte. The steady light breeze provided exciting and competitive racing for both the Eastern Yachting Circuit fleet and the Laser 28 Canadian Championship competitors.
Hosted during the Bay of Quinte Yacht Club’s 150th Anniversary celebration year, the event showcased the Bay of Quinte as one of Canada’s premier freshwater sailing venues. Sailors, families, and guests enjoyed the Club’s hospitality throughout the weekend, including Friday evening entertainment by The Reasons.
“The Eastern Yachting Circuit and Laser 28 Canadian Championship showcased the strength and diversity of our sailing community,” said Commodore Dale Holland. “Despite challenging weather conditions, our competitors, volunteers, race committee, and support teams delivered a successful and memorable event. We are proud to welcome sailors to Belleville during our 150th Anniversary year.”
