The Eastern Ontario PC MPP Caucus, which includes a local representative, is emphasizing the importance of taking in local feedback regarding the contentious ALTO high-speed rail project.
Hastings-Lennox and Addington MPP Ric Bresee was part of a statement from the Caucus that noted investments in these types of projects should reflect the priorities and needs of rural communities, farmers, families and local businesses.
The Caucus added public confidence in infrastructure projects such as ALTO rely on meaningful consultation and right now, there is too much uncertainty and not enough questions answered sufficiently.
Bresee and the group stated if the project is to proceed, local residents need to have a major say in its planning, route selection and delivery.
“The federal government must ensure that any potential future rail project minimizes impacts on farmland and is supported by the people affected,” the statement reads.
