An organization that supports and provides local safety programs is launching two key initiatives that will help them save lives right here in Quinte.
The Children’s Safety Village of Belleville is excited to announce the launch of its Online 50/50 Raffle, running from June 1–22, alongside its upcoming Annual Helmet Giveaway.
The Online 50/50 Raffle gives community members the opportunity to support a great cause while having the chance to win big, with the proceeds directly supporting the Children’s Safety Village’s mission of preventing injury and saving lives through preventative education.
In addition to the raffle, the Children’s Safety Village will host its Annual Helmet Giveaway on Saturday, June 20, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. All the helmets are free thank to the incredible generosity of Bonn Law.
I am always very supportive of the great work they are doing at the Children’s Safety Village, but I find this year’s push very timely following two tragic incidents last week in Belleville.
In one, a cyclist died after a collision with a vehicle in the Foxboro area. Later in the week, a man on an e-scooter died after a collision with a vehicle in the east end of the city.
The summer hasn’t even begun, but we have already had two fatalities on local roads, and that’s two too many.
The work done by the Children’s Safety Village and the helmets they distribute lay the foundation for a lifetime of safe recreational activities and day-to-day checks and balances that are desperately needed at all times.
The lessons they encourage are extremely valuable and much less painful than the ones we often learn on city streets.
I’m Paul Martin and that’s what I see looking Beyond the Headlines.
