The first Quinte West Council meeting since August 12th, began on a solemn note.
Mayor Jim Harrison opened the meeting by reading the following statement, in response to the shooting in Belleville on Sunday.
“Our thoughts are with the Jewish community in Belleville. As well as throughout the Bay of Quinte region, and everyone impacted by this troubling incident. Everyone should be able to gather, worship, and practise their faith safely and without fear. At this time, our thoughts are also with the injured Belleville Police officer, their family, colleagues, and all who responded to the incident. As a close neighbour and part of the Bay of Quinte community, Quinte West stands with Belleville during this difficult time. The City of Quinte West remains committed to fostering a community where everyone is treated with dignity and respect, and where there is no place for violence, hatred, or intimidation.”
