UPDATE (12 P.M.)

The road is now reopened to traffic, BPS officials say.

UPDATE (11 A.M.)

A single vehicle crash is believed to be the reason behind a closure of a section of road in Belleville.

Belleville Police responded to the collision in the area of Bridge St E and George St late Sunday night, where officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop of the vehicle for traffic violations.

The driver of the vehicle reportedly refused to pull over and was involved in a collision.

As a result of the incident, the driver of the suspect vehicle was transported to hospital and the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), has invoked its mandate.

As such, the Belleville Police Service is unable to provide any further information.

The road is still closed as of the latest update between William and John Sts., so drivers should continue to avoid the area.
