Gun seized during traffic stop in downtown Belleville

A firearm was seized during a traffic stop in Belleville that led to three arrests and multiple charges.

On December 5th (Friday night) at 10:43pm, Belleville Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the city’s downtown area. While speaking with the driver and occupants, officers detected a strong odour of cannabis coming from the vehicle, and a search of the vehicle and its occupants was conducted.

During the search, officers located a firearm in the waistband of one of the male occupants. Police also seized an open bag containing cannabis.

As a result of police investigation, the following persons were arrested and charged:

Austin Wright, 24-year-old Newcastle man, was charged with the following offences and held for a bail hearing:

· Possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose

· Carrying a concealed weapon

· Careless use of a firearm

· Unauthorized possession of a firearm

· Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm

· Possession of firearm contrary to prohibition order

Kael Davis, 22-year-old Toronto man, was charged with the following offences and released on an Undertaking with a court date in February:

· Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm

· Drive with a held communications device under the HTA

· Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available under the CCA

· Fail to have insurance card under the CAIA

Miciah Williams, 21-year-old Scarborough man, was charged with the following offences and released on an Undertaking with a court date in February:

· Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm
