Drug and impaired charges laid in Bancroft following traffic complaint

One person has been charged in an impaired driving investigation in Bancroft

On Saturday, just after 5 p.m., Bancroft OPP officers received a traffic complaint from a member of the public.

After officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop, they arrested the driver of the vehicle was arrested for impaired operation.

A search reportedly produced more than 6g of suspected fentanyl.

The accused was then transported to the Bancroft OPP detachment for further testing and refused to participate in testing with a Drug Recognition Expert.

Tanya Burry a 35-year-old resident of Peterborough, has been charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired – drugs
  • Refusal to comply with demand
  • Dangerous operation
  • Possession of a schedule I substance

The accused’s licence was suspended for 90 days and their vehicle impounded for seven days. The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bancroft on January 6, 2026.
