A Municipal Contribution Agreement from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation was recognized in a special appreciation event at Belleville’s Operations Centre on Thursday.
In the fiscal year of 2024-2025 (April 1, 2024 – March 31, 2025), the City of Belleville received a total of $3,252,501 through the agreement, bringing the life-to-date total of contributions to almost $24 million.
A significant portion of this funding goes to capital projects and operating costs, facilitating vital community projects and alleviating the financial burden on taxpayers.
This year’s funds will go towards the reconstruction of Bridge Street East, annual shave and pave road maintenance operations, replacement of two fire pick-up trucks, essential fire suppression system upgrades at Glanmore National Historic Site and gateway signage for the Northeast Industrial Park, among other projects.
As part of the event, staff unveiled the name of a brand-new snowplow which was purchased through OLG funding from 2024 – the “Ace of Blades.”
Mayor Neil Ellis stated this Municipality Contribution Agreement allows the city to fund vital projects without raising taxes each year.
