A back and forth, see-saw battle ended with the Trenton Golden Hawks outlasting the St. Michael’s Buzzers 5-4 in double overtime.
Jack Ziliotto notched the winner in the dying seconds of the second OT frame to give Trenton its fourth straight win and eighth in nine games this month.
The Hawks had and lost four separate one-goal leads in regulation, but found a way with 11 seconds left, with Ziliotto showing great patience to cruise in front of the St. Mike’s net and wait for Buzzer goalie Erik Maki to go down before lifting a shot upstairs for his 29th of the season.
Ziliotto and Taeo Artichuk finished with three points total, with Artichuk scoring twice to retake the OJHL goal lead.
Andrew Wycisk added his sixth of the season and a helper, while Joey Brehmer contributed a goal and an assist as well.
Thomas Kuipers, Lucas Digiantommaso, Jamie Darlison and Beckett Ewart all had single assists and Hayden Jeffery made 20 saves to improve the Hawks to 33-8-0-2 and 68 points, three clear of the Stouffville Spirit, who have one game in hand.
The Hawks are back home to meet the North York Rangers at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
