Change can sometimes be good, but stability is often the hallmark of strong and vibrant organizations.
The Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board has announced a new 5-year contract for Director of Education Katherine MacIver, effective September 1st.
Officials say this aligns with the launch of the new strategic plan and will ensure stable leadership to advance the school board’s priorities.
Let me say that I have complete confidence in MacIver to navigate the challenges of the modern educational landscape and plan for the future of thousands of local children, including our youngest son Alex.
Let me also commend the Board for getting the deal done and keeping someone of MacIver’s caliber in the role.
Over the past five years, there have been many changes in the top jobs of local municipalities, non-profit organizations, and even police detachments and fire departments.
It will always happen eventually, because nothing good lasts forever, but when it happens you want to see decisive changes that signal improvements or at least continuity of vision.
When it happens suddenly or repeatedly, it raises more questions than it answers, and can indicate a workplace with issues, conflicts or outright toxicity.
The start of the school year is the perfect time to promote the lesson that excellence should be rewarded. It would also be a terrible time to try and replace the driver while the school buses are already in motion.
I’m Paul Martin and that’s what I see looking Beyond the Headlines.
