No decision yet on Downtown Belleville parking

No decision has been made regarding Downtown Belleville’s parking system.

In today’s Council agenda, a resolution asked that Council approve the recommendations involving increasing set fines for infractions, bumping up the fee for daytime parking permits, increasing the hourly parking rate to $1.50 per hour from the current $1 an hour and implementing an overnight parking permit program.

Councillor Thompson asked that these recommendations be discussed at the Transportation Committee meeting on Sep 25 as the ‘DBIA did not feel they had enough consultation time’ and ‘With the dialouge back and forth between the City and the DBIA, there might have been confusion, so we’re going to give them the opportunity as they are a vital part.’

Council agreed with discussing the matter further at the Transportation Committee meeting.

Council meets again on Sep 22 at Belleville City Hall.
