NHL starpower is behind an initiative that aims to create peace and ‘restorative energy’ for families affected by Multiple Sclerosis.
This week, a Demo Day and Film Shoot was held at Bickell’s Point on 1065 Cook Rd. in Marmora, organized by three-time Stanley Cup winner Bryan Bickell, to mark the start of the transformation of three cottages into an accessible retreat for people with MS and their families.
Bickell was diagnosed with MS following his playing career with the Chicago Blackhawks and Carolina Hurricanes.
Following retirement, he and his wife Amanda purchased purchased three cottages and surrounding land on Crowe Lake in Marmora to turn into a ‘lakeside sanctuary’ for people experiencing this neurological disease.
Andrew Shaw, a Belleville resident and former teammate of Bickell’s, joined the event to support the cause.
The retreat is designed by local Shalagh Elliott and built in partnership with Alair Homes Belleville.
Beginning in the fall of 2026, Bickell’s Point will host four retreats annually, each welcoming three families and their caregivers and/or support systems for a complimentary three-night stay.
The experience will offer space for rest, community, and healing, while fostering long-term connection through MS Buddies, a private online forum designed to help families stay in touch and support one another beyond their stay.
People who are living with or affected by MS are being asked to share feedback to help shape the retreat.
Brand sponsors are also being sought to support the build.
