Sandbanks one of many Ontario parks to receive upgraded electrical service

By Hailey MacDonald Sep 18, 2025 | 8:28 AM

What’s being touted as ‘the most significant expansion of camping opportunities in 50 years’ is benefitting Ontario Parks – including one here at home.

The Ontario government announced it is investing nearly $60 million to add up to 300 new campsites and upgrade 800 campsites with electrical service.

This includes Sandbanks Provincial Park in Picton, which the province says will see up to 73 campsites electrified by the summer of 2026.

This endeavour aims to enhance comfort and improve accessibility for a wider range of visitors as demand continues to increase.

Ontario Parks’ phased expansion is prioritizing parks based on project readiness, cost-effectiveness and the ability to deliver high value to park users.
