People on the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory will notice a larger police presence over the next few days in conjunction with a largescale search operation.
Tyendinaga Police stated its officers will be joined by the provincial Organized Crime Bureau to execute search warrants related to illegal cannabis production on the Territory.
Significant police presence will be felt around the Territory in order to capture the individuals responsible and Tyendinaga Police say residents may run into ‘restricted areas of containment.
The investigation, police say, involves ‘non-Indigenous criminal organizations exploiting Indigenous rights and lands’ with assistance from a ‘limited number of community members.’
The projected profits from this operation are in the millions and officials say they are not benefiting the community.
Police ask residents to not approach anyone if they seem suspicious and instead call 9-1-1.
