City of Belleville to discontinue Cultural Exchange Committee

By Hailey MacDonald Oct 27, 2025 | 6:21 PM

The City of Belleville is discontinuing their Cultural Exchange Committee.

The decision came this afternoon at their regular Council meeting held at City Hall.

The City’s Cultural Exchange Committee’s mandate is to manage visits and other twinning events between Belleville and Gunpo Korea, assist staff as necessary with organizing the student exchange and friendship flights with Lahr Germany, and provide recommendations to Council on matters pertaining to twinning activities.

Currently, the following individuals are appointed to the Cultural Exchange Committee: His Worship Mayor Ellis, Councillor Chatten, Councillor Henderson, Jackie Denyes (has stepped down from the committee), and Paige Summers.

Since the start of the current term of Council in November 2022, the Cultural Exchange Committee met once in February 2023.

The activities historically undertaken by the Cultural Exchange Committee have transitioned to City Staff to complete. The Mayor and Clerk have discussed how to proceed with the Cultural Exchange Committee now that staff handle the activities.
