CAO Goheen says ‘Recruitment process will get underway shortly’ for new PEC Fire Chief

By Hailey MacDonald Sep 23, 2025 | 9:26 PM

Prince Edward County is on the hunt for a new Fire Chief.

In a statement previously provided, County CAO Adam Goheen said that Chad Brown is ‘no longer an employee’ of the municipality.

No details were provided on the reasoning for Brown’s departure, but Goheen thanked Brown for his service and ‘wish him all the best in his future endeavours.’

Brown spent the bulk of the past four years as Prince Edward County Fire Chief, officially taking over for the retiring Robert Rutter in December 2021.

Following today’s Prince Edward County Council meeting, CAO Goheen said that while the municipality cannot currently provide anything further than what’s already been stated, the recruitment process will get underway ‘fairly shortly.’

“In the interim, Council has appointed Tim Kraemer as our interim Fire Chief. Pat Howe is our current acting Deputy Fire Chief. Those folks will provide support and service as we move through the recruitment process for the new Fire Chief.”

CAO Goheen said the municipality will ‘cast a wide net’ in the recruitment process, looking through the province and the field for the position, but their hope is to find someone who is local.

Updates on the County’s Fire Chief position will be provided when available.
