Two Northumberland area police organizations have acknowledged a cybersecurity breach.
Both the Cobourg and Port Hope Police Services made statements on Monday noting they are aware of a cybersecurity incident involving Navigate360, the third-party provider of the P3 tip management platform used by Crime Stoppers programs across Canada.
As a precaution, CPS is temporarily pausing the use and promotion of the Peterborough and Northumberland Crime Stoppers portal and tip line.
Meanwhile, PHPS officials are working with Crime Stoppers partners to determine whether local information was affected and to assess any potential implications for public safety and ongoing investigations.
The incident involves a third-party platform and is not currently characterized as a breach of police-owned internal systems.
Both organizations are actively assessing the potential impacts of this cybersecurity incident on police operations and the appropriate next steps.
