Members of the Kingston Police Special Services Unit commenced an investigation into the suspected possession of a firearm by an individual residing at a local accommodation establishment and executed a search warrant last Thursday, October 15.
During the search, officers seized a loaded handgun, ammunition, a prohibited weapon, and quantities of illicit drugs, including fentanyl destined for the purpose of trafficking.
As a result of the investigation, a 28-year-old Kingston resident was charged with several Criminal Code and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act offences including eight counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition while prohibited, three counts of unauthorized possession of a restricted firearm/weapon, two counts each of breach of probation and careless storage of firearm/ammunition, and one count of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace.
The individual was held in custody for bail hearing.
The seizure of a loaded firearm and fentanyl underscores the serious public safety risks posed by illegal weapons and drug trafficking.
This investigation demonstrates our continued commitment to disrupting criminal activity and enhancing community safety.
Kingston Police continue to prioritize the investigation of illegal firearms, prohibited weapons, and the trafficking of dangerous drugs that contribute to violence and harm within the community.
