Story by Belleville Senators
The Belleville Senators wrapped up their final game of the weekend in Toronto against the Marlies, earning a 4-2 victory.
The first period featured just one tally, and it came from the Senators. A point shot from Hoyt Stanley was picked up by Samuel Blais, who manoeuvred his way into the slot and buried his second goal of the season to give Belleville a 1-0 lead.
The middle frame saw both sides find the back of the net, with Belleville extending their lead to start. On the power play, Ryan Suzuki handled pressure down low before opening up space in the slot for Phil Tomasino, who fired it home to make it 2-0.
Not long after, Toronto responded on the man advantage. Following a face-off win by Aatu Raty, Vinny Borgesi sent a shot through traffic from the blue line, beating Jonas Johansson to cut Belleville’s lead to 2-1.
The third period brought more scoring, with all the action coming late. Tyler Boucher netted an empty-net goal with a 1:24 remaining, as Eskild Bakke Olsen and Shane Bowers picked up assists to extend Belleville’s lead to 3-1. The Marlies struck right back to make it a one-goal game once again. With the goaltender pulled, Brendan Brisson scored his seventh goal of the season, while Borgesi and Logan Shaw recorded assists to make it 3-2.
However, right off the ensuing face-off, the Senators restored their two-goal cushion. Scott Harrington scored his first goal of the season from the Belleville blue line, sealing a 4-2 victory.
Belleville will see the Marlies again on Sunday, November 1st, when the Senators host their inaugural home opener at CIBC Place. Puck drop is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
The Senators will now have a few days off before returning to action on Friday, October 23rd, when they travel to Pennsylvania to take on the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (AHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins). Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Mohegan Arena at Casey Plaza.
