The struggles continued for the Trenton Golden Hawks on Saturday in Newmarket.
For the second straight game, Trenton fell behind 3-0 after the first period and couldn’t fully claw back, falling 7-3 to the Hurricanes at Ray Twinney Complex to drop its fifth in a row.
Logan Rivard, Reggie Taylor and Presley Allain (with two) put the Canes out in front before Evan Norris broke through shorthanded with his third of the season unassisted.
Aiden Lee restored the four-goal bulge with a shorty of his own for Newmarket, before Kaiden Harmon buried his fifth of the year on the same powerplay from Ryan Chamberlain and Charlie Gage.
Norris added his second of the game and fourth of the year in the third between two more ‘Canes markers, with Thomas Harnett and Ethan Brassard picking up assists.
Nolan Nicoll and Hayden Jeffery split the net for the second game in a row, combining for 24 saves as Trenton once again cleared the 40-shot threshold.
The schedule doesn’t get any easier on Tuesday, as the Hawks return to the ‘Hangar’ for a meeting with West Conference powerhouses the Leamington Flyers at 7:30 p.m.
