UPDATE as of 8 am – Other parts of the country were also affected by the 911 outage. CBC is reporting that the GTA has service restored along with some other cities like Winnipeg, while parts of Nova Scotia and Quebec are still offline.
Belleville Police say 911 service was disrupted earlier today starting around 3 am but was fully restored as of 5 am or so and is working properly again.
ORIGINAL STORY – Police agencies are advising the public of steps to take after 911 service reportedly went down in some parts of Ontario on Thursday morning.
The OPP posted the following advisory to social media shortly before 5 am.
EAST REGION OPP ADVISORY –
OPP has received reports of intermittent 911 outages in parts of the province. The public is urged to call the OPP non-emergency line at 1-888-310-1122, which remains in service, if they are unable to call 9-1-1 and require emergency police services. OPP continues to respond to calls for service during this outage. The issue is being investigated, and further updates will be provided as information becomes available.
Members of the public should not call 9-1-1 for information, updates, or to test the phone line if they are not in an emergency situation.
The OPP is working with service providers to expedite the restoration of 9-1-1 service.
Kingston Police also issued the following advisory on Thursday morning.
Kingston Police has received reports of intermittent 911 outages in parts of the province.
The public is urged to call the Kingston Police non-emergency line at 613-549-4660, which remains in service, if they are unable to call 9-1-1 and require emergency police services.
Kingston Police continues to respond to calls for service during this outage. Further updates will be provided as information becomes available.
