A local industrial company has received a $202,000-plus grant to jet out on a new facility relocation and expansion journey.
Belleville Council approved the funding of $202,115 at its meeting Monday to BCS Automation and the landlord, Bowland Company to support a $10.7 million move and the construction of a new manufacturing plant at 435 Station Street.
Funding comes from the city’s Employment Lands Community Improvement Plan, with rebates split between development charges, planning fees, building permit and landscaping.
BCS Automation is now operating from a 37,000-plus sq. ft. site on Dundas Street East.
A staff report to council noted the new plant will include approximately 24,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing space, which aims to increase the company’s manufacturing capacity by approximately 200-per cent.
The facility will support the engineering, design, manufacture, assembly, testing and commissioning of marine electrical control systems, switchboards, motor control centres and industrial automation systems serving Canadian marine, shipbuilding, defence and industrial markets.
Economic Development Manager Elisha Maguire stated in her report the proposed development represents a ‘significant private-sector investment in Belleville’s employment lands’ and supports the city’s objectives for industrial growth, advanced manufacturing, employment retention and job creation.
