Belleville Fire & Emergency Services held a memorial ceremony on Friday morning to honour those who lost their lives in the Sept. 11 attacks 25 years ago.
On that day, 343 firefighters lost their lives while responding to the attacks.
In the 25 years since, more than 600 additional first responders have died from 9/11 related illnesses.
We remember the first responders and civilians who lost their lives, their families, loved ones and all those who continue to be affected. We also recognize the first responders who serve our communities each and every day.
The ceremony was held in front of the Firefighters’ Memorial Monument at Fire Station #1, which has a piece of the World Trade Towers and contains the names of Belleville Fire & Emergency Services members who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
