As a new school year begins, The Hastings and Prince Edward Learning Foundation on Thursday officially launched its Power Their Potential campaign. The
milestone campaign launched over a warm, fresh breakfast at Prince of Wales Public School in Belleville—a fitting tribute to the
Foundation’s vital Food for Learning program, where school staff and volunteers work tirelessly to ensure no local child attempts to learn on an empty
stomach.
This year marks a deeply meaningful milestone: the 25th Anniversary of The Hastings and Prince
Edward Learning Foundation. For a quarter of a century, the Foundation has stood beside local
students from their very first day of Kindergarten all the way to Graduation Day.
Yet today, the need remains urgent. Every single day, local children walk into classrooms carrying
burdens far too heavy for young shoulders. The Learning Foundation needs our community’s support
to ensure that:
● A missed breakfast doesn’t stand in the way of graduation.
● A family emergency doesn’t stand in the way of graduation.
● A lack of food doesn’t stand in the way of graduation.
● No barrier—whether hunger, financial crisis, or personal adversity—should stand in the
way of a student’s success and path to graduation.
To ensure every child receives the nourishment, dignity, and care they deserve, Elexicon Energy has
stepped forward with an extraordinary lead gift of $30,000. This transformative gift will be used to
double the impact of every single donation made by the community, turning hope into tangible support
for students across the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board.
“When a child is hungry, worried about a crisis at home, or missing basic essentials, school becomes a
mountain too steep to climb,” said Executive Director, Kellie Brace, The Hastings and Prince Edward
Learning Foundation. “As we celebrate 25 years of supporting students, our promise remains
unchanged: no child’s potential should be limited by circumstances beyond their control. Thanks to
Elexicon Energy, every gift given today works twice as hard to protect, nourish, and uplift our youth.”
Examples of How Your Gift Can Work Twice as Hard for Local Youth:
● $25 becomes $50: Provides milk for 10 students for a week.
● $50 becomes $100: Supplies emergency hygiene kits for 5 students.
● $100 becomes $200: Ensures a healthy breakfast for 100 students.
● $250 becomes $500: Provides eyeglasses so 2 struggling students can finally see the board.
● $500 becomes $1,000: Helps provide clothing, bedding, and essentials for a family after a
crisis like a house fire.
● $1,000 becomes $2,000: Sends two busloads of students on an inspiring, hands-on learning
experience.
● $1,500 becomes $3,000: Equips a school kitchen with an industrial fridge to store fresh food
for vulnerable children.
“Every child deserves the opportunity to grow, learn and reach their full potential without the distraction
of hunger,” said Elexicon President and CEO, Amanda Klein. “We are tremendously proud to support
a program that is working tirelessly to ensure that no child has to learn on an empty stomach. As an
energy company, we are committed to helping build stronger, healthier communities and investing in
the future of our next generation.”
Members of the community are invited to join the 25th-anniversary push and double their impact today
