As kids headed back to school over the past week, Fire Department officials are also hoping to educate people about some fire safety tips involving Lithium-Ion batteries.
Saturday morning, two people were extricated from the site of a fire on Moira Street West.
One of them was rushed to Sunnybrook in critical condition, with a GoFundMe set up for the family.
The cause of the fire was electrical, involving lithium-ion batteries.

- you should use only chargers and batteries compatible with the device you are charging

Do not leave any lithium-ion device on a charger unattended

Do not attempt to charge damaged or swollen batteries

Do not store e-bikes or mobility devices where they will impede access to exits
It’s so important to keep these in mind, because with more lithium-ion batteries in use every day, the potential for danger and serious injuries is also increasing.
