Members of the Northumberland OPP have charged two individuals from the Greater Toronto Area with drug-related offences following a traffic stop.
On August 27, 2026, at approximately 10:45 a.m., OPP officers were conducting speed enforcement on Highway 401 westbound in Brighton.
During the enforcement initiative, officers observed a passenger vehicle travelling 145 km/h. The driver initially failed to stop when directed by police. After the vehicle was later stopped, officers initiated a drug investigation.
As a result of the investigation, police seized quantities of suspected fentanyl, methamphetamine, cannabis, drug trafficking paraphernalia, and Canadian currency.
Mitchell Byfield, 24, of Etobicoke has been charged with:
– Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid (other than heroin)
– Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine
– Speeding
– Fail to surrender insurance card
– Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle
– Novice driver fail to surrender licence
– Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
– Fail to stop for police
– Fail to stop on right for emergency vehicle
Albert Adu-Boateng, 26, of North York has been charged with:
– Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid (other than heroin)
– Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine
– Failure to comply with release order
Both accused were held to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg.
