A new development in Hastings County will see its completion delayed to next year.
Hastings County Council heard at its meeting Thursday that a 32-unit affordable apartment building on 20 South St. in Trenton will not be ready in the previously scheduled timeline due to heavy winter weather.
Dalren Limited took on the contract for the build at a cost of $12.7 million and set a goal of having the building completed with an occupancy permit by Fall 2026. Based on the tender documents submitted, the building would have been turned over to Hastings County by December 27 of this year.
A report from Director of Facilities and Capital Infrastructure Matt Carty indicated early winter with significant snow accumulation resulted in the delay of roofing materials being installed.
Combined with issues related to the window framing and exterior insulation installation, and mechanical equipment changes, that has resulted in the completion date has been pushed back.
Dalren provided an updated construction schedule in late June 2026, that indicates that construction will be completed by January 8th, 2027, with commissioning and occupancy being granted in February 2027.
This schedule, the County says, is based on the current schedule of subcontractors and availability of materials to complete the construction.
