The Quinte Region is mourning the loss of a giant in local business who made a huge impact on the entire region.
Last week, Trenton Cold Storage released a statement on the passing of owner Eben James Senior at the age of 99.
His life was an ageless blueprint for how to balance family, work, and community service.
He took over the family business at the tender age of 22 after the death of his father and then dedicated almost eight decades of his life to building one of North America’s Most respected temperature-controlled logistics companies.
I have known a number of people who worked at Trenton Cold Storage. It was always a job that was respected and highly sought-after because of Eben and his leadership.
His service to the community was legendary.
Eben served on Trenton City Council, chaired the Chamber of Commerce, served as Publisher of The Trentonian, and proudly acted as Honorary Colonel at CFB Trenton, revitalized Fraser Park, donated use of land that became the Trent Port Marina, and designed and funded the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan Memorial.
To his family we offer our condolences and say thank you for the time you shared Eben with us. While you were his first loves, he still had enough left over to help raise up an entire community and help make Trenton (and Quinte West) what is today.
