Quinte West Council seeks provincial funding for ice storm costs

By Hailey MacDonald Oct 1, 2025 | 8:31 PM

Quinte West Council has agreed to pursue funding through the province’s Municipal Ice Storm Assistance (MISA) program.

The decision came this afternoon at their regular Council meeting held at Quinte West City Hall.

According to a staff report, the March 2025 ice storm cost the city an estimated $85,000 in overtime wages and contracted services. Crews and contractors were tasked with clearing downed trees, addressing flooding issues, removing snow and ice, repairing water and sewer lines, and ensuring roads and public infrastructure were safe and accessible.

Through MISA, municipalities can recover 75% of eligible expenses. For Quinte West, that would amount to $63,750 if the application is successful, with the City responsible for the remaining 25%.
