An attempt to escape following a crash was halted in Belleville Saturday night.
Around 11:40 p.m., Belleville Police responded to the area of Pinnacle Street and Victoria Avenue regarding a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.
It was reported that a vehicle struck a pedestrian crossing at the intersection and fled the scene at a high rate of speed. The victim was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
At 12:27 a.m., officers located the suspect vehicle in the city’s north end along with the male suspect. Upon speaking with the male, officers observed signs of impairment.
As a result of the investigation, Stephen Gallant, a 54-year-old Belleville man, was arrested and charged with:
· Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80 mg
· Operation causing bodily harm
· Fail to stop at accident resulting in bodily harm
He was released on an Undertaking with a court date in October.
