An Ontario Summer Football League Championship is coming back to the Quinte reigon.
The U14 AA Quinte Skyhawks won the Sandy Ruckstuhl Cup on Sunday at Western University in London, beating the Guelph Jr. Gryphons 28-6.
Carlos Gutiérrez Pedraza opened the scoring with a six-yard run in the first quarter, followed by a 35-yard push from Trey Coke in the second to put the Skyhawks up 14-0 at the end of the first half.
A trick play in the opening of the third quarter from QB Ryder Eddy throws it back to Julian Prashad, who threw a 45 yd bomb to Ezra Orr for a 65-yard score.
Guelph answered with a throw and catch to make it 21-6, but the Skyhawks would put the game away on a Reese Cameron 30-yard TD after breaking a tackle.
“All three phases of our team played lights out,” stated Skyhawks president Peter Gabriel.
“Our defense shut down Guelph’s offense who had the highest passer rating in the province with forced fumbles, interception and constant pressure on their highly touted QB.”
Gutiérrez Pedraza ran close to 200 yds being named the game MVP.
The victory capped off a 9-1 season for the Skyhawks.
