Fraud charges have been laid following an investigation in Belleville.

City Police received a report on Wednesday that an unknown person had stolen a wallet from a vehicle and used debit and credit cards at various locations overnight.

Police stated video surveillance from one of the locations showed a suspect using the missing wallet and making purchases before leaving.

The individual seen in the footage was known to police.

Just after 1 o’clock Thursday afternoon, Belleville Police responded to a report of an unwanted person in the city’s west end and upon arrival, recognized the person from the fraud investigation.

A 34-year-old Belleville man with no fixed address was arrested and charged with two counts of Fraud Under $5,000. He was held for a bail hearing.
