The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges following an incident where a dog and their owner were assaulted.
On Monday, July 13, 2026, Officers with the Quinte West OPP, the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Canine Unit attended an area near Creswell Drive, Trenton, responding to a report of an assault on a dog and later on, the dog’s owner.
As a result of the investigation, Thomas HAZELTON, 28 years old of Quinte West has been charged with the following offences:
- Killing or injuring animals
- Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm
- Assault with a weapon
- Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
- Obstruct Peace Officer
- Personation with intent to avoid arrest, prosecution or obstruct justice
The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville.
