Teammates, loved ones, businesses and supporters are getting behind a local athlete who needs a big assist while battling health issues.
U14 Belleville Spirits basketball player Ciara Lewis and her family recently received the devastating news that she has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
The Spirits organization is rallying behind the Lewis family and says they want to ensure she’s not alone in her battle.
“Our entire Spirits community stands behind Ciara, cheering her on every step of the way and supporting her in the fight ahead,” a post on the Spirits Facebook page stated.
“We are all rooting for her strength, courage, and recovery as she takes on this challenge.”
To support Lewis and her family, Spirits volunteers are selling Team Ciara T-shirts.
All funds raised, less production costs, will be donated directly to the Lewis family to help cover expenses related to Ciara’s treatment, including travel, meals, and other unexpected costs that come with a lengthy medical journey.
Also, Revamped Hair Design in Trenton is offering appointments to people to put purple streaks in their hair for $50 to offset some costs.
All proceeds from this fundraiser will go directly to the family.

Lewis had been nominated as the Cool 100 and Hits 95.5 Athlete of the Week back in January.
She was described as a true team player and a kind person off the court.
