Good news for employment in Quinte

By Hailey MacDonald Oct 10, 2025 | 10:13 AM

The economy appears to be on an upswing jobs-wise both locally and nationally.

Statistics Canada stated on Friday the country added a better-than-expected 60-thousand jobs in September.

Statistics Canada says the gains were concentrated in full-time work — as roughly 100-thousand full-time jobs more than offset a drop in part-time work.

In the Belleville-Quinte West Census Metropolitan area which includes Belleville, Quinte West, Deseronto-Tyendinaga and Stirling-Rawdon, the unemployment rate decreased in September, falling to 6.6 per cent from 7.5 in August.

Overall, employment is up by 22-thousand net jobs since the start of the year as tariffs from the United States continue to put pressure on some critical Canadian sectors.

The unemployment rate was unchanged at 7.1 per cent.
