Major Belleville reconstruction project set to begin this month

By Brock Ormond May 4, 2026 | 4:40 PM

The City of Belleville will be undertaking a major infrastructure reconstruction project along Bridge Street East between Herchimer Avenue and Haig Road to replace aging underground services and improve long-term reliability.

The project includes the replacement of existing watermain and water services, as well as sanitary sewer mains and services. Roadway reconstruction will also take place, including a new road base and asphalt surface, replacement of most curb and gutter, and repairs to existing sidewalks.

This work is part of the City’s ongoing investment in critical infrastructure to address aging assets and reduce the risk of service disruptions, while supporting future growth and development in the area.

Construction is expected to begin this month with completion anticipated by winter 2027.

During construction, the roadway will remain open to local traffic where possible. Residents can expect temporary lane closures, detours and changes to traffic patterns as work progresses. Advance notice will be provided when disruptions are required, and appropriate signage will be in place at all times.

Residents in the project area will receive direct communication from the contractor prior to construction, including details on timing, access and any service impacts.

“This project will replace critical underground infrastructure that has reached the end of its service life while improving the overall condition of the roadway,” said Josh Lowe, Senior Project Manager. “We understand construction can be disruptive, and we are committed to keeping residents informed and maintaining access to properties wherever possible throughout the project.”

Updates and additional project information are available at Get Involved Belleville. Residents with questions can also contact the City’s Engineering and Development Services team by emailing construction@belleville.ca.
