Community gathering in Peterborough on Monday to remember former Trenton Mayor Neil Robertson

People are gathering in Peterborough on Monday to remember one of the most important politicians in the history of Trenton.

The mass is being held on the morning of May 4th at 11 am at St Alphonsus Church to remember former Trenton Mayor Neil Robertson.

He passed away last week at the age of 91.

ORIGINAL STORY – Flags are being lowered in Quinte West as people pause to remember a major figure in the history of local politics.

News emerged on Wednesday that former Trenton Mayor Neil Robertson had passed away at the age of 91.

Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison says Robertson was a “Happy and friendly fellow. Always called you brother. He made a special effort to attend Macaulay family functions. He was a sincere, honest, devoted politician. Served with respect and dignity for all.”

Born and raised in Trenton, Ontario, Robertson attended St Peter’s School and Trenton High School. From a young age, he was an enthusiastic sportsman, participating in hockey, football, softball, baseball and basketball.
He was elected to the Trenton Separate School Board and later served as Councillor, eventually becoming Mayor of Trenton from 1982 to 1997.
Robertson was also involved in numerous community groups in the Trenton and Quinte region.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, May 4th at 11am at St Alphonsus Church, Peterborough. Neil will be laid to rest at Mt Calvary Cemetery, Trenton at a later date.

The family requests that donations be made to Hospice Peterborough or St Alphonsus Church in lieu of flowers.
